Chapter 15 - The Beard
As with events that happen, the death of Whitney Houston is one that jogs the memories in a strange way. I was web surfing for famous drug deaths and ended up in Wikipedia and looked at all of the notorious deaths by drugs or alcohol. I was led to Jim Morrison of the Doors in Wikipedia which led me to his influences during the Sixties. One influence stood out for me and reminded me of something Maris and I did together. We saw Michael McClure in San Francisco at the Poetry Event in 1973 that I have already mentioned.
We liked his play "The Beard". So we decided to present it near where we lived in Petaluma. We contacted Mr. McClure to get his permission which he granted. (I am searching for that document) We presented it as a reading more than the play since neither of us were actors although I did participate in High School and College plays and hung out in Hollywood for a short period.
We presented it on the back of my 1960 red Ford Ranchero in front of a few people. I am posting again the picture of that Ranchero and the farm.
